These profiles share attractive layouts featuring graphic embellishments related to the author’s work—for example, the background in Rick Riordan looks like papyrus—and color photographs, though occasionally poorly placed in the gutter. Each book includes a look at the author’s influences and speaks at length about the plots and characters of their main works, as well as discussing the movies based on the books. Rick Riordan focuses a good deal on his adult mysteries as well as his mythology-based stories, and while his childhood was relatively standard, his story of becoming a rock star among authors will appeal to aspiring young writers.
