A simple introduction to railroads both past and present
Reviews:
Gr 1-3--Unique covers will entice children to select these titles: the color photos on Pedaling and Rescue are blurred to indicate speed, while Riding displays an old black steam engine surrounded by billowing smoke. Each book gives a very brief history of the development of the title vehicle from its invention to today. The format is inviting, with spacious margins and large type. Vocabulary and terms are age appropriate. The crystal clear, half- to full-page illustrations complement the texts, as do the black-and-white reproductions. There are no captions, but the narratives often refer to the photos. Priority purchases for children who are making the transition from picture books to easy nonfiction.
