About this Item
Ring O' Roses: A Nursery Rhyme Picture Book(With Numerous Drawings in Color and Black and White) by L. Leslie Brooke was published by Frederick Warne & Co., Ltd., London, in, I'm estimating or guessing, the early 1900's. This approximately 7 3/4" X 9 1/2", thought-to-be First Edition offering, running to nearly 200 pages, or so (counting both sides of one-sided colour illustrations), is a rebound, ex-library copy in G+ condition. There is quite modest yellowing of pages of text as well as endpapers front and back, a minimal presence of library markings, and some not-all-that-noticeable shelf wear at top and bottom edges of volume's spine as well as at the four outer tips of cover boards. Some clear taping was required to repair smallish tears, mostly at edges of a small number of pages, in paper that has become a bit brittle/testy with the passage of the 100 or so years of its existence. The year of publication is nowhere to be seen, but I'm thinking that my estimate is very much in the ball park. The highlights of this offering, of course, are the dozens of black and white Sketches, and the nearly thirty full color Drawings(four of which actually span adjoining pages), by the noted illustrator L. Leslie Brooke, in his inimitably charming, endearing style. Some of the classic rhymes presented include "Wee Willie Winkie", "Good King Arthur", "Little Bo Peep", "There Was a Crooked Man", "Simple Simon", "Jack and Jill", "This Little Pig Went To Market", "Baa, Baa, Black Sheep", and "Humpty Dumpty". Thank you very much!
