Many years had passed and Sarah knew nothing about the true meaning of herheritage; but finally everything came full circle when she realized the powerof her legacy. Sarah had an epiphany when she visited Tuskegee University forthe first time. For Sarah, the veil of ignorance was lifted that day. Shortlythereafter, she became clear about her purpose and began to embark upon herintended journey in life. In Rising Up From The Blood: A LegacyReclaimed-A Bridge Forward she brilliantly tells her story about ayoung woman's struggle to reclaim her legacy.
For decades, as a child, a teen and a young adult, Sarah struggled with manyinsecurities brought upon her by unstable living circumstances; and she carriedthose insecurities into adulthood. Little did she know that the time spentfalling and failing could only serve as a stepping stone to a future that wouldhelp her own children and grandchildren, and the numerous youth that she wouldencounter. Each chapter of the book includes lessons learned andsolutions.
In the book, Sarah states that her journey was by nomeans easy, but it has led to a place that she could have only arrived at withoutthe trials she overcame along the way. It also allowed her to have genuinecompassion for the underprivileged, while affording her the wherewithal toempower them to do something about their circumstances. She is living proofthat others can also change their lives.
Sarah states: "By understanding more about my great-grandfather, Ilearned if I get down in the trenches with others and help to pull themout, I am much more effective than if I tell them how to get out. As one sayinggoes, "People don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care."
Sarah currently resides in Northern California with her husband, Anthony W.Rush.
