SLIM RAY is an author, writer, and photographer whose work has appeared in numerous national publications. He has taught river rescue in the U.S. and internationally, and has developed river rescue courses with several organizations, including Rescue 3, Canyonlands Field Institute, and the Nantahala Outdoor Center. An active kayaker who has worked professionally as a canoe and kayak instructor and raft guide, he is the president of CFS Press in Asheville, NC.
LES BECHDEL is president of Canyons Incorporated in McCall, Idaho. He has represented the U.S. in five world championships, and has been national slalom champion four times. Les and his wife, Susan, continue to run wilderness trips for boaters on the Middle and Main Forks of the Salmon River.
