Maybe you wear glasses. Maybe you have a lot of freckles. Maybe your hair is a different color. Maybe you travel the world on four wheels. Maybe your skin is a different color. Maybe everyone can see your surgery scar. Maybe you use hearing aids to hear the world better. Maybe you're not the first one picked for team sports.

There will always be people in the world that look at or treat you differently because they think you look or act differently. Just like River, you can do whatever you put your mind to. The only person in the world that can keep you from your dreams is yourself.

Caitlynne has harbored a lifelong love of books and animals. She was born and raised in Georgia and is an Appalachian State Alumni. She transplanted to Raleigh, North Carolina in 2015 and started her book-writing journey in 2019 with River the Three-Legged Dog.River the Three-Legged Dog is a story of inclusion that she feels the world needs to hear. Her second picture book, Milo the Brave was published in 2021. Down to the River and The Truth About Squirrels were both published in the Fall of 2022.She plans to continue writing picture books in her hopes of sharing meaningful, uplifting, inspiring, and often goofy messages to children (and adults) all over the world. She lives in Raleigh with her husband Cameron and their three dogs, River, Rory, and Milo.

Stephen Minervino was born in the south, raised in the north, and then made his way back down again to study Art and Design at North Carolina State University. After graduating in 2014, he has worked as an animator and digital artist in the Raleigh area. While he has no pets of his own, he loves spending time with the pets of friends. Especially cats, even though they make his face explode. He loves a good story, whether it's a book, video game, movie, or a comic.
