Iceland was the last of the Nordic countries to accept Christianity, and this book is an 'attempt to collect the evidence concerned with one important aspect of Norse heathenism: ideas about the fate of man after death'. Norse literature has strong-minded characters who are forceful in speech and action, and the descriptions are unsurprisingly blunt at times, quoting from the sagas. This is an unusual and fascinating study on a particular angle of Norse Lit. Red cloth-covered boards are rather soiled and the spine faded and with a tiny tear; gilt lettering; binding is good, though book is slightly forward sloping; endpapers with some print/writing upon them; the text has a few pencil marks and even a very few biro ones (p 42), but it is perfectly readable for anyone with a strong stomach.
