About the Author
Elaine Gray Dumler educates in her own unique way through speaking. She is a wife and mother whose husband served in the Army National Guard between 1969 and 1975 before they were married. As a speaker her clients take her around the globe, and recognizing that the stress of separation is there even when the timeline is relatively short, she was particularly touched by what military families face with sustained absences. Incorporating methods she used to stay connected to her husband and son along with ideas garnered from over 500 military families throughout the country, Elaine created I'm Already Home, (first edition) a book designed to help families discover unique and wonderful ways to stay connected and in constant communication when they are apart. This book was released the week we went to Iraq in 2003. Her second book, I'm Already Home...Again, released in 2006, combines the best of the first edition with over 170 new ideas, 120+ resources and stories gleaned through speaking with hundreds more families these past years. This 3rd book in the series, The Road Home - Smoothing the transition back from deployment is written in the tradition readers have come to expect from Elaine, and helps with many of the situations each family finds themselves in following reunion and reintegration. It is filled with ideas that have worked for others, stories from interviews and over 250 resources designed to help. Focusing on bringing her message and methods of family unity to military families throughout the country, Elaine's work has been featured in Ladies Home Journal, The N.Y. times and over 40 other publications including 6 in foreign languages. She's been on TV (including MSNBC, FOXNews and the Montel Show) and radio (over 70 programs) to talk about the importance of keeping family ties stronger than ever and the connection strategies most effective in doing so. She is honored to be the recipient of the ABC 7 Everyday Hero award for establishing the Free Flat Daddy project, and presented with 14 special challenge coins, including past-president George W. Bush's Commander in Chief coin, to honor her work with families. Committed to helping military families at home and abroad, Elaine has been traveling to military installations and family readiness conferences throughout the country with her reassuring strategies for families with one goal in mind: to make sure that every American deployed or on temporary assignment in the service of their country has the means available to be in the closest contact possible with their loved ones left behind.
