Road Surfaces and Vehicle Dynamics is intended for anyone interested in road surfaces and how they influence vehicles, from newly minted engineers, to seasoned practitioners, to researchers in the field.

Over the past 35 years, Dr. John B. Ferris has established a global reputation for his work on mobile road mapping systems, road surface modeling, and vehicle dynamics and reliability. He earned his PhD from the University of Michigan in 1996 while conducting research in the automotive industry from 1990 to 2005. Dr. Ferris joined the Virginia Tech faculty as an Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering in 2005 where he led dozens of sponsored research projects as Principal Investigator. His contributions as founder and director of the Vehicle Terrain Performance Laboratory are detailed on the lab website at: www.vtpl.me.vt.edu. In 2019, Dr. Ferris formed Road Scholar Solutions, LLC (www.roadscholar.solutions) to offer engineering services to the vehicle and pavement community by drawing from his store of knowledge and experience, complementing his university interests.
