ROBERT INDIANA - Signed Original Screenprint from " Decade: Autoportraits, Vinalhaven Suite " - Nicely framed ** Screenprint in colors on Fabriano paper. Signed and dated by Robert Indiana in pencil, lower right. Numbered lower left.Work from the portfolio Decade: Autoportraits, Vinalhaven Suite , 1980. This is #7. Printed by Edition Domberger, Germany Professionally framed in bespoke white wooden frame, hand-made, with PLEXIGLAS Optical HC, scratch-resistant and UV-protected. Framed approx. 75 x 75 cm Throughout his career, Robert Indiana frequently explored the concept of the chronological decade, using it as a structural and thematic framework for his art. His first major engagement with this idea came in 1971 with his Decade portfolio, a series of ten screenprints, each representing one of his paintings from the 1960s. Indiana revisited this concept in 1980 with Decade: Autoportraits, Vinalhaven Suite, a collection of prints reflecting on his artistic journey throughout the 1970s. The title references Vinalhaven, a secluded island off the coast of Maine where Indiana relocated in 1978, marking a shift from his bustling New York City life to a more introspective, solitary environment. This transition imbued the Vinalhaven Suite with a personal and reflective quality, distinguishing it from his earlier Decade works. Both Decade series serve as visual timelines, capturing the evolution of Indiana s artistic vision while also offering a poignant meditation on the passage of time. This unique ten-year format not only frames his career milestones but also underscores his deep engagement with memory, identity, and change. ** Robert Indiana: Master of Pop Art & Iconic Typography ** Robert Indiana (1928 2018) was an American Pop Art pioneer, best known for his bold, typographic works that blend graphic design, literature, and political themes. His most famous creation, "LOVE" (1965), became an enduring symbol of modern art, appearing in prints, sculptures, and even a U.S. postage stamp. *Indiana s work is featured in major museums, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Whitney Museum, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. His influence extends beyond fine art, as his designs have been adapted into sculptures, postage stamps, and large-scale public works. ***** Pop Art movement emerged in the 1950s and 1960s, transforming everyday objects, advertising, and mass media into bold, colorful artworks. Artists like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Keith Haring, David Hockney, Robert Rauschenberg, Alex Katz, Allen Jones, Jim Dine, Mel Ramos, Julian Opie, Sigmar Polke, and Robert Indiana blurred the line between commercial and fine art ***** SHIPPING: Worldwide shipping available *** CONDITION: in very good condition *****.
