Reebee Garofalo has taught at the University of Massachusetts, Boston since 1978. He us the co-author of Rock ‘n’ Roll is Here to Pay (1977), editor of Rockin’ the Boat (1992), and co-editor of Policing Pop (2003). He has written numerous articles and lectured internationally on popular music and the music industry, and serves on the editorial collective of the Journal of Popular Music Studies.
Rob Bowman of York University is a very high profile and well-known academic across Canada. He has helped to pioneer the academic study of popular music at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and has published widely in both academic and non-academic forums including liner notes for over 175 compact discs. Nominated for five Grammy Awards, in 1996 he won a Grammy in the “Best Album Notes” category for a 47,000 word monograph he wrote to accompany a ten-CD box set he also co-produced, titled The Complete Stax/Volt Soul Singles Volume 3: 1972-1975 (Berkeley:Fantasy Records 1994.) Professor Bowman is the author of the award-winning book Soulsville U.S.A.: The Story of Stax Records. His many broadcast credits include a five-part radio series on the history of Canadian popular music and frequent guest spots on CBC Radio's Definitely Not the Opera.
