They Rode with Custer

Why a book now about the Battle of the Little Bighorn, 140 years later? Because the full story has never been told due to prejudices against Indians at the time, media frenzy, and embarrassment about the loss of a national hero, General Custer. This relates the adventures of two Irish immigrants who joined the cavalry because they needed a job, and they became caught up in the disaster at the Little Bighorn.

This is Bernie Keating's thirteenth book. His eclectic writing pursuits include books on frontier history, religion, music, economics, science, and several novels. He was raised in Buffalo Gap, South Dakota, near the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, and his friends included elderly men who had fought against Custer as warriors in the Little Bighorn battle sixty years earlier. In his youth, he had the aspiration to become a cowboy and ride the open range; however, as an adult, he became an executive with a major multinational company and rode airplanes around the world. In a throwback to his youth, he and his wife now live on a ranch in the Sierra Mountains near Sonora, California, where they raise maverick deer and stray cats.
