Role of Police in Administration of Criminal Justice System in India: An Analytical Study

The administration of India's criminal justice system and the function of police are both examined in this analytical study. The overview of the Indian police system's structure and organisation, including its legal foundation and operational procedures, comes first. The paper then explores the methodology and practise of police investigations, highlighting pertinent legal requirements and police power abuses throughout the course of investigations. The study also looks at the suggestions made by several committees, including the Gore Committee, the National Police Commission, the Ribeiro Committee, the Padmanabhaiah Committee, and the Malimath Committee, regarding police reforms in India.
The analysis of the historic Prakash Singh case and the Supreme Court's orders for police reform to stop custody crimes and human rights abuses serve as the study's conclusion. Overall, this study offers insightful information about the difficulties and opportunities faced by the police in India's administration of the criminal justice system.
