How Do You Roll Call

Are you leading Roll Call, or is it leading you?

In law enforcement, a newly promoted first-line supervisor often receives extensive administrative training but little guidance on how to actually manage and lead a team of officers on a daily basis. The result? New leaders are left to figure out operational management through trial and error.

How Do You Roll Call eliminates the guesswork. This comprehensive guide demonstrates how the traditional 15-minute Roll Call is the foundation for establishing team culture, maintaining discipline, and ensuring mission readiness.

Moving beyond abstract leadership theories, this book provides actionable, real-world strategies centered around the Five Fundamental Functions of Roll Call:

• Taking Attendance: Build a foundation of accountability, reliability, and respect.
• Inspections: Ensure officer safety and instill pride in the uniform and equipment.
• Information Sharing: Learn how to actively gather and disseminate crucial intelligence.
• Training: Deliver highly effective, bite-sized lessons that reinforce policy and improve field performance.
• Making Assignments: Strategically place the right officers in the right roles to ensure mission success.

More than just a procedural manual, How Do You Roll Call teaches supervisors how to handle the human element of policing. Learn how to address chronic attendance issues, resolve conflicts, navigate officer burnout, and prioritize the mental and physical wellness of your team after critical incidents.

Whether you are a newly promoted sergeant or a veteran leader looking to reset your team's dynamics, this book will equip you with the tools you need to support your officers and lead from the front.
