Item description from seller

Chicago: Weeks Publishing Co., 1893. Octavo (19cm); publisher's pictorial wrappers; 401pp. Wrappers chipped and worn at margins with long shallow loss along fore-edge of upper cover not approaching illustration or text, textblock heavily toned due to acidic paper. About Very Good and sound. Pictorial advertisements printed inside wrappers and rear cover, including the train lines the Iron Mountain Route through Texas and the Burlington line through the Midwest, as well as Pillsbury flour. Dime novel edition of the British author's bestselling supernatural sci-fi novel addressing the ongoing debate between Creationists and Evolutionists. First published in 1886, the work was a critical failure but a commercial success. Of all unlikelihood, Oscar Wilde was a fan. Forms part of the Marguerite Series.
