(ds1). Brunet V, 1784; BNF, The prolific French author Paul Scarron was born in Par lived in Le Mans as a young man. He became severely crippled, most likely by contracting polio, when he was age 28. In spite of suffering a great deal from his deformity, Scarron was a successful writter, adapting his novellas and plays from Spanish romance literature. Roman comique, a comedy about a troupe of actors and their adventures, was written between 1651 and 1657, and considered Scarron 's best work. The Amsterdam printer Abraham Wolfgang, whose device is a tree with bees' nest and fox, and the motto "Quaerendo" in banderole, was active between 1658 and 1694. Dutch artist and engraver Jan Veenhuysen was also active in Amsterdam, from 1656 to 1685. Seller Inventory # 42225
