Romantic Crochet: 30 Beautiful Projects for Your Home

Of all the Victorian crafts, crochet is perhaps the most romantic. Now this charming book shows that it is also one of the most versatile. Romantic Crochet offers a dazzling range of classically styled original projects, including table mats and runners, napkin rings, sachets, cushions of all kinds, wall hangings, a tea tray cover, doilies, holiday decorations, and gift items. Each project has been carefully graded, with full instructions, so that everyone--from beginner to expert--will find something to appeal. Great care has been taken in the styling of each project, so as a group or singly, they will bring a romantic touch to any room. And by placing the emphasis on the beauty of the patterns, and keeping the shapes simple and unfussy, the author has ensured that her designs will blend beautifully with any decor.

Robertson emphasizes fine thread crochet and elegant classics readers will want to make both for their homes and for gifts. Each of the 30 patterns included is graded for difficulty (with most falling in the intermediate skill range), and for each there is a full-color photograph and both written and diagrammed instructions. The color photos accompanying each pattern are so clear that an experienced crocheter could probably work from the picture alone. Projects include place mats, coasters, pin cushions, napkin rings, tissue box covers, tablecloths, bread basket liners, bookmarks, and pillow covers. Hardcover collections of quality crochet patterns are few and far between, making this book a welcome addition to public libraries.
