Roots of Scripture

"A spirited guide to discovering the intricate ways of the "Older Testament." Roddy brings his knowledge of scripture and the environment in which it developed to bear in this edifying read. This book makes clear that scripture, though forged in the past, is yet relevant for us today." -Dr. Daniel A. Ayuch, Professor of New Testament, University of Balamand, Lebanon

"The power of Scripture lies in its prophetic character, speaking truth to power and hope to the powerless, then and now. Roddy takes the reader on a tour of the prophetic origins of the Bible, while adding his own prophetic message for those who seek a truth that holds at a time when the Anthropocene has us on the verge of collapse." -The Rev'd Canon Dr. Gregory C. Jenks, University of Divinity, Brisbane, QLD, Australia

"Roddy examines the process of biblical formation from a text critical angle, highlighting the diverse traditions and genres that forged the scriptural message. His lucid debate guides the reader through the function of prophetic literature and affirms the importance of understanding scriptures historical and cultural roots. This substantial work will occupy a place on my bookshelf next to the work of Bruce Metzger, John Barton and Emanuel Tov. It is certain to become a trusted reference for pastors, teachers and students." -Rev. Dr. Cătălin Varga, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University, Iași, Romania
