Winning first place in Harmony’s holiday lights Best Block contest should be a dream come true for James and Mandy.
Instead, it may turn into a Christmas catastrophe.
As Opening Night begins, crowds pour into the neighborhood to admire the dazzling lights, festive displays, and holiday cheer. But Rosco, the family’s lovable German shepherd, is determined to help in his own way—and his efforts soon send the evening into one mess after another. At the same time, Mandy is still reeling from a school parade disaster after insisting on doing everything herself.
With the neighborhood’s big win on the line, James and Mandy must work together with Rosco to stop the chaos, save Opening Night, and discover what the Christmas spirit is really all about.
Filled with humor, heart, and wholesome holiday fun, Rosco the Rascal and the Holiday Lights is the fifth adventure in the Rosco the Rascal chapter book series.

"I really like this book and this author. Shegenuinely understands what matters to young children, and writes withwarmth, humor, and more suspense than you might expect in a Christmasstory. As an adult reader, by the time I was one third through the book, I couldn't put it down.
Can fifth grader James cope with being constantlyovershadowed by the popular boy down the street? Can first grader Mandymake real her wish to do things all by herself without messing up infront of everyone? And can Rosco the German Shepherd prove to one andall that he's not a stupid, clumsy oaf, and save the neighborhood fromthe brink of Christmas disaster (which he partly caused)? These are allreal human (and canine?) feelings which anyone can relate to. Myfavorite parts are those told from the dog's point of view-bothheart-warming and very funny at the same time.
A clever addition to the e-book version is the clickable links to define some of the "hard" words and phrases (such as "cringe" and "steal theshow"), which are great for building confidence in early readers.
If you want stories to stir the hearts of the young people in your life, the Rosco the Rascal series is a lovable choice. This book, thoughseasonal, is my favorite so far." -Author Larry Feign, Goodreads
