About the Author: David Buchan is an experienced and internationally renowned journalist and author, with politics, economics, and energy issues being his main fields of expertise. He was a staff writer for The Economist from 1970–74, based in London and Washington, DC. He then joined the Financial Times from 1975 to 2006, and moved between Washington, DC, Brussels, and Paris. During this time, he was Paris bureau chief, East Europe editor, defense correspondent, diplomatic editor, leader writer, and energy editor. He is currently senior research fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies.
