About the Author: Brian Catlos is a professor of religious studies at the University of Colorado with a focus on Muslim-Christian-Jewish relations in medieval Europe and the Islamic world, as well as the history of the premodern Mediterranean. He is also a research associate in the humanities at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Catlos has published a number of travel guides for Rough Guides and some academic texts, including The Victors and the Vanquished: Christians and Muslims of Catalonia and Aragon, 1050–1300 and Infidel Kings and Unholy Warriors: Power, Faith, and Violence in the Age of Crusade and Jihad.
