Drawing heavily on shipping information published in port newspapers, as well as official vessel documents, this study examines the Georgia coasting trade from 1800 to 1861. Detailed information on these coasting ships, their owners, captains, crews, and the cargoes they carried is presented for this six-decade period.

About the Author: Charles E. Pearson, a native of St. Simons Island, Georgia, received a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Georgia. He has conducted archaeological research at prehistoric sites in Georgia and at shipwreck sites in the Gulf of Mexico and adjacent waters. Pearson coauthored THE LAST VOYAGE OF EL NUEVO CONSTANTE and is an adjunct professor in the History department at Hampden-Sydney College. He currently resides in Appomattox, Virginia.
