Publisher: T. V. Boardman and Company
Binding: Paperback
Condition: Acceptable
Seller: Alexander Fax Booksellers, Mawson, ACT, Australia
Large 8vo hard cover dust wrapper, 354pp, b&w photos. Some wear on dust wrapper edges and corners, some tears which have been taped on reverse. Now protected. A little wear on corners, former owner's name plate on front pastedown, signed by Buckley on title page. A very good copy. As well as his AIF service, the author served on attachments with the British Army in Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq in 1941, in North West Europe in 1944/45 and at Luneberg in Germany in May 1945. In both theatres he was known as the "roving staff officer". He recalls his years of service, and also includes mini-biogs of Herring, Sturdee and Shedden (the chapter on Alfred and Vernon Sturdee is mainly taken from their notebooks, giving details of fighting in difficult conditions). He also includes a chapter which highlights Curtin's dedicated leadership (Australia's Perilous Year) and this was originally published in a special edition of the Australian Defence Force Journal.
