The building's emergence as a destination for all, whether to enjoy a performance by a world-famous symphony orchestra, a dance class, a poetry reading, or just a cup of coffee, is considered in the context of the intentions of its original planners and those who have led, maintained, and refurbished it since.

Sandy Rattray is an architectural historian, author, and governor of the Southbank Centre, and was a director of the architectural firm Allies and Morrison.

Eleanor Jolliffe is an architect, columnist, and author, and in 2023 was awarded the Rome Scholarship in Architecture. She is an associate at the architectural firm Allies and Morrison, and leads the firm's architect work at the Royal Festival Hall. 

Edmund Sumner is a leading architectural photographer who collaborates with major architects, publishers, editors, and curators all over the world. 

Dan Cruickshank is an architectural historian and television presenter. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects, a member of the Executive Committee of the Georgian Group, and on the Architectural Panel of the National Trust.
