Rubber Science and Technology

The majority of design engineers have little experience with rubber, often completely lost when determining how to select one of the many rubber options that would be best suited for their applications.

In her book Rubber: Science and Technology, Elisabetta Princi delves into the world of rubber, giving readers a complete survey of the life cycle of rubber materials, starting from the basics and covering everything to recycling of rubber.

Rubber science and technology comprises both art and science aspects, because the base elastomer is highly customizable, together with all the other main ingredients of rubber compound, such as the curing system, fillers, anti-degradants and processing aids among them.

The aim of Rubber: Science and Technology is to provide the key information and insights about rubber compounding, transformation technologies, applications and reclaiming methods. Emphasis is given on the scientific approach to rubber science, departing from the description of the basic chemistry and physics of elastomers and elasticity theories, just arriving to a complete overview on the most used rubber materials and thermoplastic elastomers.

Elisabetta Princi, PhD is the R&D Manager at the Ocean Reef Group, Italy. She took her Ph. D in Science, Technology and Chemical Process at the Genoa University, after the Master Degree in Industrial Chemistry. She had a more-10- years permanence as Researcher at the University of Genoa and for some period at the Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh, UK, focusing her activities on polymer science and technology. In 2011 Dr. Princi joined Ocean Reef Group in which she is in charge of the research issues for what concerns materials’ developments. In addition, she is also the Quality Manager and the Scientific Coordinator of the Nemo’s Garden project. She has published more than 50 scientific publications in international and national journals and she is the authors of 10 book focused on applied polymer science. Again, attended to several international conferences as invited speaker.
