The Ruby Key (Moon & Sun)

In a world divided by day and night, a young girl must save her family from certain death and discovers the dangers of the moonroads and a threat to all humans …

Most of the world is covered in dense forest with human settlements few and far between. Nightlings and humans maintain an uneasy truce, celebrated tentatively by exchanging gifts once a year.

When Genna, a young girl from a forest village, and her brother Danrith venture out into the night to save their ailing mother's life they must strike a deal with the nightlings' ruthless ruler. With it come betrayal, adventure, and magic. Add a talking cat to the mix, more annoying and aloof than helpful (or so it seems) and saving their mother, their siblings, their village, and humankind seems more impossible with every passing minute.

While change is urgently needed, Genna, her brother, and the friends they pick up along the way, face truly evil adversaries. Genna keeps going by sheer stubbornness. But can the little group prevail when everyone and everything is determined to kill them?

"The Ruby Key" is a highly imaginative YA coming of age fantasy novel by Compton Crook Award winner Holly Lisle and the first in a four book series.
