Volney's Ruins. was second only to Paine's 'Rights of man' in its influence on English and American radicals in the decade of revolution. Both these books have been translated from the original French. Internally, the pages are mostly very clean with very little foxing. There is a very small amount of water staining to the pages around 115 of 'View of the Climate.' Spine and boards have been re-laid and therefore the binding is very tight. The boards themselves are a little worn and the corners are slightly bumped. The spine has been repaired but original nameplate in relatively good condition. A fine work.
