The Rule of Taize : In French and English

The 80,000 copy bestseller, now in a larger size

It was in wartime France in 1940 that Roger Schutz left his native Switzerland to settle in Burgundy, near a village called Taizé. He dreamed of beginning an international community based on ancient Christian principles of work, prayer and hospitality, beginning with the poor. Today, more than 5 million people – particularly the young – have pilgrimaged there to pray, study the Bible, and discover the fruits of living and working beside other Christians. An icon of real Christian community, Taizé inspires today’s neo-monastic, fresh expressions, and emerging movements. After Brother Roger’s untimely death in August 2005 – when he was attacked and killed while praying with more than 2,000 young people in the Church of Reconciliation – the Community republished The Rule in French and prepared a fresh translation into English. This work of deep insight and broad vision is a mine of wisdom for all those seeking to live in harmony with others and with God.
