About the Author

Dr. George Sheehan was a respected cardiologist, accomplished runner, and best-selling author of eight books on the importance of exercise and sport. One of the pioneers of the fitness boom of the late '70s, he was dubbed by many as the runner's "guru," but his audience encompassed all athletes.

His contributions to the fields of health and fitness have been widely recognized. As medical editor of Runner's World and member of the Presidential Council for Physical Fitness, he traveled the world to teach the benefits of the "athletic life."

Running&Being was written when Sheehan was in his late fifties. He died in 1993 at the age of 74, after a seven-year battle with prostate cancer.
