Running Home

“Running Home – 10 Windermere Marathons in 10 days and Everything in Between” Is a story about honouring the past and finding faith for the future, through the pursuit of a life that holds a sense of purpose, one which is underpinned by challenge, courage, love, compassion, and acceptance. It is a story about breaking away from conventional ways of thinking and following the very personal calling that we so often hear as we go about our days.

Follow Simon as he attempts to make peace with his past and find direction for the future. All of this takes place against the backdrop of one of the UK’s toughest endurance challenges, the Brathay ten-in-ten. This epic adventure will take you back in time to experiences that forged a resilience that ultimately propelled him towards an event that would not only help him impact the lives of others but also change the direction of his life forever. Alongside this, you will discover strategies that will enable you to listen more carefully to the voice within so that you can begin to live the life that you want to live. These strategies are simple yet effective ways of gaining control and moving forward.

This book is a call to arms to people who have reached a point in their lives where they can no longer ignore the very personal voice that keeps on whispering to them to step up inside of themselves and follow their bliss.

Extracts from the book:
“The call of the unknown, coupled with the desire to do something different with my life, was something that I had been searching for, for years, particularly since I had found myself settling into the humdrum monotony of the nine-to-five life. For as long as I could remember there had been a nagging feeling inside of me, a restlessness, and a sense that I could get more out of my life”.

“Little did I know that in less than a year I would be back here to start my very own ten-in-ten adventure, where I would come to know this bridge, the driveway, Brathay Hall, and the beautiful lap of Lake Windermere, intimately. So intimately in fact that it will now forever hold a sacred place in my heart.”

“I do remember the moment I looked up and the social worker left the garden with my little sister. I immediately ran over to give her a hug. I can’t remember what I said to her, but I do remember holding her tight, and then she was gone. From that moment everything changed.”

“This is just one example of the way that OCD started to control my young life. Little did I know that this was to be just the start of a series of mental health disorders that would come to plague me over the coming years.”

“I couldn’t help but think back to my very first attempt a year ago, and now here I was, about to embark on a truly life-changing day, the victory lap, the trouble was that I wasn’t feeling very victorious, rather as I opened my eyes that morning, I felt defeated.”
