Russell, C: Complete Old Testament Apocrypha

Go Beyond the 66 Books of the Protestant Bible

There is more to the biblical tradition than most readers have ever been told.

For nearly two thousand years, Christians around the world have preserved and read sacred books that are absent from the Protestant Bible. The Old Testament Apocrypha brings this extraordinary literature together in one expansive readers’ edition, drawing from the biblical traditions of the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Ethiopian Churches.

These are not simply forgotten curiosities or modern “lost books.” They are ancient scriptures that have shaped Jewish and Christian faith, theology, worship, art, and imagination for centuries—and many of them are still read as Scripture by Christians today.

Inside this remarkable collection you’ll find:

• All of the Deuterocanonical books preserved in the Roman Catholic tradition
• The additional books and texts preserved by the Eastern Orthodox Churches
• 1 Enoch, with its astonishing visions of angels, Watchers, judgment, and the heavenly world
• Jubilees, the remarkable retelling and expansion of Genesis and Exodus
• 1, 2 & 3 Meqabyan, preserved in the Ethiopian biblical tradition and rarely encountered by Western readers
• Beloved works including Tobit, Judith, Sirach, Wisdom of Solomon, Baruch, and the additions to Esther and Daniel
• The dramatic histories and martyrdom stories of the Maccabean literature
• Prayers, wisdom, visions, legends, and sacred histories that illuminate the world between the Old and New Testaments

And there’s more than just the texts.

Every book begins with a fresh, engaging contemporary introduction exploring:

• When and where the work was written
• Its probable original language and historical setting
• What makes the book distinctive
• Its influence on Judaism and Christianity
• Which Christian traditions preserved or received it
• And most importantly: Why should anyone read it today?

The result is an Apocrypha designed not merely to sit on a reference shelf, but to be read, explored, enjoyed, and understood.

If you’ve ever wondered what lies beyond the familiar Protestant canon—or wanted to explore the Apocrypha, Deuterocanonical books, Book of Enoch, Jubilees, the Ethiopian Bible, or the so-called “lost books of the Bible”—this collection is an ideal place to begin.

The biblical world is bigger, stranger, and more fascinating than you thought. Open the book and discover what you’ve been missing.
