Volume One: pp. viii, 1-483. Volume Two: pp. viii, 1-461 including index. Each with frontispiece and tissue guards. Illustrated with photogravures, tissue guards. 8vo, (8" tall). Apparent first American edition. Translated from the French, with an additional chapter upon the struggle for supremacy in the far east by Florence Macintyre Tyson. Bound in red decorated cloth with the great coat of arms of the Russian Empire in full gilt with St. George slaying the dragon and the double-headed eagle. A magnificent, beautiful binding with no fading and just a touch of rubbing at the top and bottom of the spine. Top edges are in gilt. Other than what appears to be an ink stain running down the fore-edge of volume one, this is truly a handsome, two volume matched set now protected in new mylar.
