About the Author

Dr. Lydia Black is a former professor of anthropology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She is now retired and living in Kodiak where she is organizing the archives of the Russian Orthodox seminary.

Katherine Arndt, Ph.D., works as a researcher specializing in Russian American history at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Department of Anthropology.

Russian-American scholar, author and college instructor, the Rev. Michael J. Oleksa received his doctoral degree from the Orthodox Theological Faculty of Czechoslavakia. He is an archpriest at St. Innocent Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Anchorage.

A former associate editor of Alaska Geographic(r) Rosanne Pagano is now an associate professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

A leading authority on Russian America, Barbara Sweetland Smith has been curator of several exhibits on this subject, a project director for the Aleut Restitution Project, and is the author of A Sure Foundation: Aleut Churches in World War II.
