Synopsis
Sammy's CatVentures' Sammy Catches the Gloomy Loomies, is the first of its series. It is a story about a Siamese cat named Sammy, who is usually happy and cheerful, but one day wakes up gloomy and sad. Tied to the roof of the car, his mother Lucy takes Sammy to the doctor to find out what is wrong with him. Dr. Katz examines him and diagnoses Sammy as having a small chemical disorder called the gloomy loomies. Upon giving Sammy some "Giggles and Jiggles" medicine, he soon bursts out into giggles. He laughs so hard that he falls to the floor. It is so contagious that the doctor, Sammy's little sister Lacy, and even his mother Lucy fall to the floor in uncontrollable laughter. And from there, the giggles and jiggles begins to spread across the whole town of Clawsville. And within a very short time, Sammy's cat world is filled with the magic of joy and laughter. Hayley L. Howell's goal of writing this story is to spread joy and laughter around the world, especially to children. Through her books, she hopes to teach them good character and morals. About the Author
Hayley L. Howell was born on June 23, 1984, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Since Third Grade, she has enjoyed writing stories, especially about cats. In Sixth Grade she illustrated and wrote a story called "Sammy's Good Luck, Bad Luck Day," that was submitted to the Young Authors Conference. She received great comments on her story from teachers, parents, and her peers. A visiting author at her school inspired her to want to become an author of children's books when she got older. In her spare time, Hayley likes to sing, write, draw, read, watch "I Love Lucy" videos, volunteer with children, and make people smile. Through her books, Hayley hopes to teach kids fun-filled entertainment with good morals and values. She wants to help bring more joy and laughter to the world. Hayley now resides with her mother in Federal Way, Washington.Helen P. Howell, Hayley's mother, was born January 24, 1953, in Mt. Pleasant, Utah (central Utah). As a young child, Helen used to sit and watch in awe her father, Vernon G. Porter, do pastel portraits and oil paintings. He was known for his beautiful art work. In Sixth Grade, Helen won a turkey drawing contest on the Captain Kangaroo television show. Then in Tenth Grade, she won first place in Utah for the Driver's Ed Safety Poster Contest. She also began drawing pencil portraits and sold them to her classmates. She graduated valedictorian of her class in 1971, and attended the Brigham Young University that same year on an academic scholarship. While attending college, Helen sold portraits in charcoal, then oil pastels, and finally in oils. Years later, an oil portrait of hers was displayed in the musical play, "The Secret Garden." Originally, her daughter Hayley drew her own Sammy's CatVentures art to go along with her story she shared with many children locally. (Some of her original art is shown in this book.)
