Volume one. Two tone black and bottle green boards with gilt lettering on the spine. Covers are well thumbed and rubbed, with some small swathes of discolouration and rubbing. Spine heavily damaged, head and tail missing, corners smooth and bear some heavy wear and tear. All but one quarter of the spine remains intact. Front and back edge of spine, bears some heavy wear and tear, exposing the binding. Lacks free endpapers. Edition ends at p. 168, in mid sentence. Pastedowns are marbled, and bear some discolouration and rubbing. Some plates also missing. Page edges are heavily thumbed and discoloured, more so at the head edge. This volume bears discolouration on front pages by what seems to be moisture/water damage. This takes the form of a water mark along the fore edge. Title pages and other endpapers bear moderate discolouration and heavy foxing (see image). Most pages throughout are discoloured and foxed, either to a great lesser degree. Binding is tidy, except for the sad state of the spine. This book is in poor condition although text is clear and concise, and prints are still able to be appreciated in spite of foxing. *We always describe the faults of our books meticulously; they usually present better than they sound.
