A well loved and used hardback book, with red and black title impressions on both the front board and spine. No jacket. The book is in good condition, normal wear and marks apply consistent with use and age. The paper backed boards are a tad grubby from plenty of good use. The edge of papers have a slight tint of pink, which has faded over time, with the odd mark here and there. 444 pages, all intact, all pages, text, diagrams and fabulous illustrations are all in really good, clean readable order. (You might find the odd pencil mark on a couple of pages, nothing to drastic.) Nice tight binding. On title page is listed the published date underneath publisher's name as 1895, however it is a third edition, (which could lead the published date to be 1898) and at the end of the conclusion page is the date of 1896 in roman numerals, therefore I have listed this as the published date, so having no more to reference the actual published date, I'm happy to be corrected if anyone knows different. On inside front board is the name label of bookseller "Dymocks" Book Arcade, Sydney, which shows its a book, well travelled. The book is translated from the French of M. Le Capitaine C. S. D'arpentigny by the author Ed. Heron Allen, with original plates and explanatory diagrams by Rosamund Brunel Horsley. A truly fascinating book, with a wealth of brilliant facts and information that make this a very interesting read.…
