Shelley, Percy Bysshe. THE SENSITIVE PLANT. London & Philadelphia: William Heinemann & J.P. Lippincott, [1911]. First Charles Robinson Illustrated Edition, bound in stunning original publisher's green cloth blocked in gold, top edge gilt; profusely illustrated throughout with 18 tipped-in color plates (including frontispiece). A brilliant late Art Nouveau gem with distinctive Pre-Raphaelite inspiration . Lovely bi-chrome and monochrome illustrations, title page and vignettes, decorative borders and initials, all by Charles Robinson. Introduction by Edmund Gosse (who provides a very thorough and somewhat poetic tale of the genesis of Shelley's composition of "The Sensitive Plant" and the lady who might have inspired it). A FINE copy indeed in a VERY GOOD TO FINE ORIGINAL PICTORIAL DUST JACKET which features a replication of the beautiful endpaper design). The dustwrapper is unrestored and complete, just the most minor of edge-wear, slightly nicked at the tip of the spine with two corresponding very small closed tears but, considering the thick, almost cardboard quality of the DJ, it is a remarkable survival in this condition. This is the kind of book one wishes to acquire in superb condition and so rarely has that opportunity. Bookseller Inventory # 001903
