Reprint of the 1934 first edition. x, 380 pages. Hardcover: H 22cm x L 13.75cm. Red dust jacket rubbed with some creasing, some nicks and short tears along edges, mild soiling to white rear panel. Dark purple cloth with bright gilt stamped lettering. Past owner's personal bookplate upon front pastedown. Interior leaves toned. Red pencil bracket mark in margin of page 84 with red pencil underlining on pages 82 and 95 (all marks within Chapter II - "Romans and Cruelty"). No other such mars readily apparent after a quick perusal. Else a very good- copy in a very good- dust jacket. An English translation of the original German book titled "Kulturgeschichte Roms unter besonderer Berucksichtigung der Romischen Sitten." With a Translator's Preface, Introduction, sixteen b/w plates including frontispiece, Genealogical Table, and Index of Authors Mentioned.
