Sulzer, Joseph Ed. Title translates into English as "Song of Zion: Songs for the Israelite Worship". Solomon Sulzer (1804-1890) was an Austrian cantor and composer. He was appointed chief cantor of Vienna in 1826 and went on to reorganize the synagogue service. Shir Tsiyon "established models for the various sections of the musical service-the recitative of the cantor, the choral of the choir, and the responses of the congregation-and it contained music for Sabbaths, festivals, weddings, and funerals which has been introduced into nearly all the synagogues of the world.
