Calcutta, Oil painting 1769 by Thomas Whitcombe. Gilt decorated half morocco, spine with title and 6 raised bands. Clear glassine protective cover. Attractive bookplate of previous owner on FFEP. Fine. 21.5 x 14. First hand account by the 3rd mate of the convict ship Calcutta, on an expedition to establish a settlement in the bay discovered on the North shore of Bass Strait.
