The first open-air museum in the world, Skansen shows how people lived and worked in the past in different parts of Sweden by reassembling actual historical buildings. From a storehouse dating from the 14th century, to a 20th-century farmhouse, stylistically the range of architecture is enormous. We move from the summer pasture farm, with its medieval wooden construction, through the classical elegance of a late 18th century manor, to impressive merchant houses, to the functional timber frame of a town hall, from mills to churches. Gardens and interiors have been painstakingly recreated. This gorgeous book transports the reader back in time, and it will be beloved by all who have any interest in Sweden, and its architecture, art, or social history., English, Year1995, Illust. B/W0, Illust. Color132, ISBN 1857590538, Code 1845. Softbound, In Pristine Condition, Bio. Index. Pages 128, Size 10ösq.
