SOCIAL EVOLUTION

This is a smaller than trade sized paperback book with off-white cardstock covers and a glued spine. The book is in Very Good- condition and is lacking a dust jacket. The spine ends and corners of the book covers have some lightish bumping and rubbing. There are chips missing to both the top and bottom edges of the book covers and there is a crack with bits missing to the front spine joint. The text pages are generally clean and bright, though there is some very light generalized toning. "Benjamin Kidd (9 September 18582 October 1916) was a British sociologist whose first job was a civil service clerk, but by persistent self-education, he became internationally famous by the publication of his book Social Evolution in 1894. Kidd argued that the "evolution of society and of modern civilization" is caused not by reason or science, but by the force of "religious beliefs." The book had worldwide circulation and impacted the Social Gospel movement. Kidd is reckoned as a founder of sociology as a discipline.
