8vo; 94 pages; Clean and secure in original binding of gray-green cloth spine with very dark green boards with extensive gilt decoration to front board depicting elaborate portico gazing to a landscape beyond; two dark green spine labels with gilt lettering (chipped at lower left corners). A very attractive book with fabulous black and white illustrations by Haldane Macfall throughout. OCLC 561893964 From the foreword: ". such Universal songs as are sung wheresoever the English tongue is spoken." Chambers Haldane Cooke Macfall was an English military officer, author and artist. He became an influential art critic and historian, and a successful novelist of both historical fiction and adventure stories. Macfall was also an accomplished artist, illustrator, and book designer; he contributed illustrations to magazines, designed bookplates, decorated books and exhibited at the Royal Academy.
