Octavo, pp. [1-2] 3 [4] 5 [6] 7-172, flyleaves at front and rear, original decorated brown cloth, front panel stamped in gold and blind, spine panel stamped in gold, rear panel stamped in blind, brown coated endpapers. Second edition. The book was first published privately by the author in Boston in 1877. A dozen stories of the weird and unusual, some crime and detection, others Gothic, at least one ("A Dream Realized") supernatural. The only published book by this author, not to be confused with the English playwright, Leopold Davis Lewis (1828-1890). Bleiler (1978), p. 56. Hubin (1994), p. 218. Wright (III) 1419.
