Contemporary leather, spine lettered and decorated in gilt. *Thomas Morell (1703- 1784) editor, poet, scholar, librettist and disappointed clergyman was was chiefly known during his lifetime as a classical scholar and had a wide circle of friends and acquaintances including David Garrick, William Hogarth and James Thompson. He also wrote the librettos for a number of Frederick Handel's compositions. This work of piety for juveniles was intended particularly for the use of pupils of Eton School, where Morell had attended as a foundation scholar.* Pages 135-142 are mis-bound, but with no loss. Some traces of insect wear to binding, but overall a very good copy of this scarce book without any library stamps, inscriptions or other markings. Images available on request.
