PROVENANCE: Faint inscription on the title dated 1702, which appears to read Jean-Baptiste Médecin du Roy, likely referring to Jean-Baptiste Denys, the personal physician to King Louis XIV. Denys is notable for performing the first fully documented human blood transfusion. Ownership marks like these were often effaced during the French Revolution, particularly on books belonging to the aristocracy, clergy, or institutions connected to the old regime. RARE FRENCH TRANSLATION of La Sphere by Sacrobosco, a medieval astronomical text written around 1230. De Sphaera Mundi ("On the Sphere of the World") introduced the Ptolemaic model, describing Earth as a sphere at the center of concentric celestial orbits.
