A poor, uneducated boy from the Smoky Mountains of Tennesse he left home at the age of 14. Making his way across country he learned to drink, smoke, and gamble. Eventually he took the alias of Jack Durant and used his "education" to become the only person gangster Bugsy Siegel trusted. From Vegas he went to Phoenix, AZ and opened a restaurant which became the place to be, where more business was conducted than any office in town.

About the Author

A small town girl with some experience as a columnist for a Florida newspaper I had no idea what was about to happen when deciding to write a small article on Durant's Restaurant. Living in Phoenix, Arizona I knew of the restaurant as did everyone so I thought I'd write about the customers some of whom had been going there for 30 years. When word got out people began calling, not leaving their names but anxious to tell what they knew about Jack Durant.

It took 3 ex-wives, F.B.I records & 5 years, but I found out what Jack thought he'd taken to his grave.
