About the Author

Henry Jules Charles Petiot (1901 1965) adopted his pseudonym Daniel-Rops from a character in one of his early works. He turned his interests to writing religious history in 1941, won the Grand Prix of Literature from the French Academy in 1946, and was later elected to the French Academy.
