29pp, illustrated with 4 maps, stiff printed wraps, very clean and bright, inside and out. Reprinted from The Filson Club History Quarterly, 1986. From the Introduction, "In Kentucky, some of the drier caves and rockshelters were sources of niter, the raw material needed to produce refined saltpeter and gunpowder. This paper describes the distribution of saltpeter and gunpowder sites in Kentucky and demonstrates a direct relationship between the sites and transportation routes and available timber and water. Of the 3770 caves in Kentucky, only 133 caves and 6 rockshelters were mined for saltpeter." Scarce.

Orders usually ship within 24 hours.
We are frequently noted to refund postage to International buyers when the
items are small or otherwise cheaper to ship than the Abebooks estimates.
DOMESTIC SHIPPING: We ship domestic by media mail to save buyers money, or priority mail by request. If additional
postage is necessary, we will notify you, although we frequently absorb the additional cost ourselves as a small gesture of appreciation to our buyers.
INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: All we can say is it is expensive. Please check the United States Postal Service website for shipping estimates.
