Twelve (12) hand-sewn examples of stitching by a school girl, Catherine T. Flynn, likely made in a sewing or home economics class. Penned in her finest cursive. The techniques used include: running stitch; even basting; two examples of uneven basting; diagonal basting; two examples of gauging; shirring; hemming; vertical hemming; blind hemming; and blanket stitch. Each example is rendered in blue floss on natural-colored linen, and is numbered in the right-hand corner. The first example has a longer caption describing the wide uses of the running stitch. 8vo (8.25" by 6.25"), approx. 30 lined leaves of notebook paper, with twelve leaves used to showcase sewing samples, the remainder left blank. Sewn in original composition notebook covers. Ink manuscript to upper cover. Very good. Toned, extremities rubbed. All samples appear present.
